Sued in 1994 in massive RICO petition. A man claimed in a 1993 written statement that Morel abused him 1973-1981. In 1995 pleaded guilty to harassment by touching; sentenced to six months probation and counseling. Placed on administrative leave at the time of the accusations. On archdiocese’s list 2/13/2019. Multiple victims noted. Died in 2016. Named in a 12/2019 lawsuit by two male cousins claiming abuse by Morel while he was assigned to Holy Family in Union City. One alleged abuse in 1969 at age 9 or 10, the other ages 5-12 during 1963-1970.
