Fr. John D. Mott
Diocese: Diocese of Rockville Centre NY
Monsignor. Allegedly abused a 15-year-old girl in the 1960s. She filed a civil suit in 1994. At least four other women later came forward with similar complaints, after which Mott took a six-month leave. He underwent psychiatric evaluation twice, and each time was found to not be in need of counseling. Suit dropped 1995 due to SOL. Two of the women filed suit in 1997; suit dismissed 1998. Diocese settled with both women. Died in 6/9/99. Accused in a suit filed in 8/19 of abuse of a boy, ages 9-10, in 1958-1961. The boy attended St. Raphael’s in East Meadow. Included on the diocese’s list of accused in 3/21.
Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
