Fr. Jeffrey David Newell

In 1991 a young man told the archdiocese that he had been abused for years by Newell from age 15 in 1986. The archdiocese promised that Newell would never work in youth ministry again. Newell was removed from ministry “for other reasons” in 1993. Admitted the abuse, sent to treatment. Found in 2010 working with young men as a priest in Tijuana, Mexico. Accuser filed suit in 6/10 accusing L.A. archdiocese of fraud. One of of seven priests of the Tijuana, Mexico archdiocese who were removed without privileges as of 6/20/14. Case sent to Vatican. Found by reporter in 11/19 working as pastor of a Tijuana parish. Suit filed by a second man in 2/20 in CA alleging abuse as a young teen by Newell, beginning in 1993.
