Fr. Loren Nys

In 1/2014 Nys’ Order removed him from SS. Peter and Paul’s in Kiel, where he was working in retirement, after the Provincial’s review of personnel files. His file revealed two complaint letters from parents regarding conduct with minors dating back to late 1960s-early 1970s, Per the files, issues were addressed at the time but Nys was kept in ministry. After his removal he was to reside in Milwaukee with the Order’s retired priests under supervision. In 12/2016 a man told the Buffalo Diocese that Nys sexually abused him for two years in the early 1970s, beginning when the man was age 14. Nys was a teacher and administrator at Buffalo’s St. Mary’s High School. The man said he lived with Nys in the rectory due to family issues, and that Nys repeatedly raped him. Included on Buffalo the diocese’s list of credibly accused 11/5/2018. The list in 9/2025 notes that Nyes was retired and removed from public ministry.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
