Fr. Samuel Orellana Mendoza
Ordained in El Salvador. Working in L.A. in 1981; incardinated in 1987. Sued in 2003. Accused of abuse of a girl in 1987. Named in the 2004 Los Angeles Archdiocesan Report. The Archdiocese investigated and found no grounds to remove. At least one claim was included in a 12/2006 $60M settlement involving 22 priests, which covers all of the cases involving molestations that occurred since Cardinal Mahony was named head of the archdiocese in 1985. The archdiocese’s list in 12/2021 shows Orellana as reitred with no faculties to minister.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
