Fr. Steven J. Peterson
Agreed to step down in 4/19 pending the investigation of an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor more than 40 years prior. The allegation was received by the diocese via the IRCP (Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program). A lawsuit was filed in 8/19, claiming he abused a boy, ages 10-16 in 1972-78. The abuse allegedly occurred at Good Shepherd in Holbrook, St. Joseph’s in Ronkonkoma, during counseling and visits to a juvenile detention center, where the boy was living.
