Fr. Stephen Placa
Brooklyn priest until 2002. Became a pilot, founded a flight school on Long Island. Convicted in 2009 of the sexual abuse of two boys, ages 8 and 10. Name quietly added to diocesan website 11/2017 as a priest of the diocese laicized by the Vatican office “authorized to deal with cases involving sexual abuse of minors by a cleric.” Claims against Placa were included in the diocese’s 2017 Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP). Per the diocese’s list in 2/2019, Placa was laicized 11/25/2011.
