Fr. Edward Poettgen
Accused in a lawsuit filed in 6/2019 of molesting a boy, age 6, while assigned to a St. Polycarp in Stanton in 1994. The boy was a student at the parish school. Poettgen’s accuser first came forward in 1/2019; parishioners were not informed. The Diocese said Poettgen was placed on administrative leave at some point before 1/29/2020, although a plaintiff’s attorney stated in late 1/2020 that Poettgen told him he was still in active ministry as pastor of St. Boniface in Anaheim. Remains pastor of St. Boniface in 11/2024.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
