Fr. Richard M. Powers
Accused with two other priests in 1995 of abusing a girl in the 1960s. Alleged victim settled with Diocese in 1999 for $41K. In 2003 she died by suicide. Her family returned the settlement and filed suit on her behalf, saying she didn’t have the capacity to enter into a settlement; she had been hospitalized several times. The Diocese said she was 18 and the relationship was consensual. Powers denied all accusations. He was still an active priest in 7/2006; the suit was still pending. Retired in 2007. Remained active in the diocese in 11/2015. Died 2/13/2023.
