Fr. William J. Raiche
Named publicly as credibly accused by the Diocese on its list 7/1/2019. Died 3/26/1983. Included in the 3/4/2026 RI Attorney General’s Report, which shows that Raiche allegedly sexually abused at least five girls, ages 5-12, from 1967 to the early 1980s. Allegations were received in 1995, 1997, 1998, and 2002, of abuse which included Raiche taking nude photos of the girls, fondling, and kissing. Diocesan records show that Raiche underwent a psychological evaluation in 1970, the Chancellor writing to the doctor it was “reassuring to know that we can count on your professional confidence in these difficult situations.” The reason for the evaluation was not given.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
