Fr. Joseph R. Romano
Assistant principal of Cardinal McCloskey High School in the mid-1970s; fire department chaplain 1967-1984; prison chaplain 1984-1999. Retired in 1999 and moved to FL. Was living in Clifton Park in NY in 2019. In 1998 the Diocese received a complaint against Romano of child sexual abuse. It was deemed unfounded. There were additional complaints in 2002 and 2003, of abuse in the 1970s and 1980s. Romano was placed on leave in 2/2003. A civil suit was filed in 10/2005. Romano requested a canonical trial in 8/2005. A lawsuit filed in 8/2019 claimed Romano sexually abused a boy, age 15-16, in 1980-1981. Per the Diocese’s list updated 12/4/2019, Romano died in 2019.
