Fr. James J. Rosch

Ordained: 1972
Status: Settled

Diocese: Diocese of Albany NY

Parish priest. Diocesan Chaplain for Scouting 1981-94. Rosch was removed in 2002 after credible allegations that he abused a teenage boy 20 years prior. There was a payment by the Diocese. Rosch claimed that his removal was because he fondled a 17-year-old girl when he was 23 and had not yet been ordained. The Diocese refuted his claim, saying that that would not have been cause for his removal. May have appealed dismissal to Vatican. Settlement in 2020 in the low six figures of a claim that Rosch sexually abused an altar boy, ages 13-15, in 1975-77, while assigned to St. Joseph’s in Scotia, NY. Accused in two lawsuits current in 9/21, filed under the NY Child Victims Act, of abuse 1992-93 at St. Madeleine Sophie in Schenectady, and of abuse 1975-76 at St. Joseph’s in Scotia.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
