Fr. David Ryan
Diocese: Archdiocese of Chicago IL
Pastor of St. Francis de Sales Parish and School in Lake Zurich when suspended in 11/20. Accused of sexually abusing minors about 25 years prior, while assigned to Maryville Academy in Des Plaines. Ryan began working at Maryville in 1985 and became acting executive director in 2003. Had also been director of the Catholic Children’s Home in Alton. In 9/21 the archdiocese announced that Ryan was being reinstated, due to “insufficient evidence” that he abused a minor. A week later Cardinal Cupich announced that Ryan was not to return to ministry, pending the result of an investigation of new information received.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
