Fr. Thomas William Ryan
Ordained in 1935 for the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Became a priest of the Diocese of Saginaw when it was created in 1938. Died 1/25/1975. Named publicly as credibly accused by the Saginaw diocese on its list 4/10/2019. Included in the MI Attorney General’s 6/25/2026 Diocese of Saginaw Report, which reveals that in 2006 a woman told the Diocese that she was sexually abused by Ryan 1961-1968, beginning when she was in second grade. She said she she would hide in the bushes because she didn’t want to go to school, and was sent to a psychologist. The abuse allegedly included intercourse and took place in Ryan’s office. She said that at a class reunion in the 1990s a classmate disclosed that Ryan had abused her, too. Ryan was assigned to St. Brigid in Midland during the time in question.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
