Fr. Richard J. Schaefer
Accused of abusing a boy on many occasions. Schaefer was in charge in 1958-61 at St. Philip Neri in Northport of a group of young boys who wanted to be priests. His accuser alleged that Schaefer also abused five other boys in the group and that Schaefer was transferred after parents complained. Named in a lawsuit filed in 2003. Included in 3/21 on the diocese’s list of accused. Absent on leave, per the Directories, 1962-69. Last assignment in the Rockville Centre diocese ended 5/15/62. (May be the priest by the same name, also accused) first shown in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston WV beginning 9/62.)
