Fr. Thomas Sellentin
Removed from ministry in 4/2002 after an allegation; admitted to sexually abusing boys over 30 years. Parishioners said church authorities knew about the abuse for many years. Sellentin was transferred in the 1960s after allegations; the matter was discussed at a meeting with parishioners and the parish pastor. Sellentin was transferred again in about 1980 after complaints to the Archdiocese from the parents of about five boys. There were allegations of abuse in at least four parishes between 1968 and 1974. Named in civil lawsuit(s) filed in 3/2003. Name included on the Archdiocese’s list 11/30/2018, which notes reports 1968-present of abuse 1968-1989, and 20-35 victims. Its 3/1/2019 updated list notes 20-38 victims. Included in the NE Attorney General’s 11/2021 report. Sellentin was laicized in 2019.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
