Fr. Michael G. Skoblik

Ordained for the St. Paul archdiocese; incardinated into the New Ulm diocese when it was formed in 1957. A civil suit in 1993 claimed sexual abuse by Skoblik of a grade school student 1976-1980. Skoblik was pastor of St. Joseph’s in Silver Lake 1965-1988. He died in 1989. Skoblik’s name was included on a New Ulm list released by Attorney Jeff Anderson 8/04/2014. The names were from a deposition of Rev. Francis Garvey, a former top New Ulm Diocese official, taken in 1/2014. Two men filed a new suit 9/10/2014 claiming abuse 1967-1971; they tried to force the New Ulm diocese to disclose names of accused priests. There are at least 14 alleged victims. The Diocese released 16 names 3/29/2016 of credibly accused priests, including Skoblik. Two new suits were filed in 5/2016 against the New Ulm diocese; one alleged abuse by Skoblik at St. George in Glencoe 1953-1966, the other at St. Joseph in Silver Lake. In 3/2016-5/2016 three other lawsuits were filed accusing Skoblik of the sexual abuse of children at Holy Family and St. Pius X. Skoblik’s name was added 11/3/2017 to the St. Paul-Minneapolis list of those with substantiated allegations against them.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
