Fr. Protasio Soares

From Goa, India. In a letter to the NY Times in 12/97, a woman claimed she was abused by Soares in the late 1950s. She complained to the Diocese and to Cardinal O’Connor, but no results. Soares reportedly retired and was living in Mysore, India. Named as one of 24 abusive priests in a civil suit filed 10/1/03 in Brooklyn. Per the suit, Soares abused a female plaintiff from 1954 to 1955 when she was 9 and he was assigned to St. Bartholomew Parish in Elmhurst.
