Fr. Protasio Soares

From Goa, India. Member of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, suffix SFX. In a letter to the NY Times in 12/1997, a woman claimed she was sexually abused as a minor by Soares in the late 1950s. She complained to the Diocese and to Cardinal O’Connor, but no action. Soares reportedly retired and was living in Mysore, India. Named as one of 24 abusive priests in a civil suit filed 10/1/2003 in Brooklyn. Per the suit, Soares sexually abused a female plaintiff from 1954 to 1955, when she was 9 and he was at St. Bartholomew Parish in Elmhurst.
