In 12/10 testimony before the NJ Senate Judiciary Committee, a man said he was abused by Stanford (also spelled Stamford), while a teenager in 1977 at St. Paul’s in Jersey City. Stanford was a deacon at the time, prior to ordination to the priesthood. The man said he told Stanford about previous abuse by another teenager (later a Jesuit priest) and that Stanford used drugs and alcohol to abuse him for another three years. Plaintiff settled with the archdiocese in 2008. Stanford left the priesthood in the mid-1980s. He worked as lay employee for the Paterson Diocese until fired after the settlement. On Newark archdiocese’s list 2/13/19. Multiple alleged victims noted. Permanently removed from ministry.
