Fr. James Frederick Stauber
Ordained for the La Crosse diocese. Parish priest, teacher. Moved to the Archdiocese of St. Louis in the late 1960s. Per a 1969 news article, Stauber was sent from WI to MO due to illness and was expected to be hospitalized near St. Louis for a few weeks. He was in active ministry in the St. Louis archdiocese for four years, returned to WI for two years, after which he was on sick leave for four years. In 1982 Stauber resurfaced as an active priest in the Diocese of San Bernardino. In 1993 he was accused of having had sex with a minor in St. Louis 22 years prior. He resigned without admitting wrongdoing after Bishop Straling placed him on leave. Stauber acknowledged being a recovering alcoholic. He died 8/14/2010 in CA and was buried in WI. Included on the San Bernardino diocese’s list 10/9/2018. On the St. Louis archdiocese’s list 7/26/2019. On the La Crosse diocese’s list 1/18/2020, which notes multiple substantiated allegations.
