Diocese: Diocese of Providence RI

In testimony before the RI Senate Judiciary Committee in 3/2019, a 73-year-old woman said Tedeschi sexually abused her for over a year, beginning in 5/1960 when she was a 14- to 15-year-0ld middle school student and Tedeschi was assigned to Holy Trinity in Central Falls. She said her family lived across the street from the parish and that the abuse occurred in the sanctuary, rectory, Tedeschi’s car, and in school hallways. She said it continued after he left Holy Trinity and she was a Sacred Heart High School student. Further, when she was 15, she allegedly told another priest during confession and he told her never to tell. She said she confronted Tedeschi when she was 22, and he admitted his behavior and said he also abused other people. She also said she told the Diocese. She again informed the Diocese in 2012, and they contacted law enforcement. Tedeschi died 10/18/1986. Included on the Diocese’s list 7/1/2019 as “publicly accused.” Included in the 3/4/2026 RI Attorney General’s Report, which shows that Tedeschi’s alleged victim said she reported her abuse to the Diocese in 1961, 1968 and the early 2000s.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
