Fr. Florencio Peneda Tumang

Ordained: 1948
Status: Indicted

Diocese: Diocese of Trenton NJ

From the Philippines. Appears to have arrived in the Diocese of Trenton in 1979, where he was incardinated in about 1984. In a 1993 civil suit, four families alleged their daughters were abused by Tumang between 1987 and 1992. Parents of one of them allegedly told diocesan officials in 1990, but no action was taken. Tumang later assaulted the fourth girl, who was age 14. Tumang was indicted twice in 1992 but fled, likely to the Philippines. Warrants were out for his arrest. Included on the diocese’s list of credibly accused 2/13/2019. (Per the list, Tumang was ordained in 1980, but the Official Catholic Directories and other sources show his ordination as 1948.) Noted to be deceased.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
