Br. John Vas
From Hungary. Accused of sexually abusing boys at Salesian High School in Richmond CA and little girls at Salesian camps. In 2002 a man reported to police past abuse by Vas in Richmond; no prosecution due to the statute of limitations. In 2/2008 a woman alleged Vas molested her for nearly seven years, beginning when she was 7-years-old in the early 1960s. Vas was a Salesian brother and the band instructor at Salesian High School, where the girl’s brother was a student. She said her parents would volunteer at the school and bring her along, and that Vas would just follow her. She said the abuse happened at the school and in her family’s home. Vas later married and was last known to have been living in Bartow, FL with his wife. He died in 9/2019 at age 98.
