Status: Sued

Diocese: Archdiocese of Los Angeles CA

Ordained for the Diocese of Culiacan, Archdiocese of Hermosillo, in Mexico. Assigned in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1962, incardinated in 1975. Retired in 1990 and returned to Guadalajara, Mexico. In 1994 was working with children at the Jesús Nino parish, Guadalajara. The same year, the L.A. Archdiocese received reports from the Sisters at San Antonio de Padua of rumors of Villagomez’s involvement with children a number of years before he left the Archdiocese. The 2004 Los Angeles archdiocesan report shows that Villa was accused of abuse of a minor 1964-1965. A man had alleged in 2002 abuse as a boy by Villa. Civil suit filed. Another report emerged that Villa abused two altar boys, who were brothers. In 2008 Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez, then Archbishop of Guadalajara, refused to collaborate in the investigation of an allegation. Villa is deceased, per the archdiocese’s list updated in 12/2021.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
