Fr. Sylwester Wiejata

Ordained: 1996
Status: Accused

Diocese: Archdiocese of Philadelphia PA

Accused of abuse of a 13-year-old girl in 2000. In treatment in 1999 and on leave by 2000. Laicized in 2002. Testimony in 2012 trial of Msgr. Lynn shows he had attraction to women, particularly married women and that the girl he admitted (to Msgr. Lynn) abusing was the daughter of one woman with whom he had a sexual relationship. Msgr. Lynn admitted at trial that he did not report to police or attempt to learn identity of the girl because he doubted the credibility of the woman who first told him about Wiejata.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
