Fr. Joseph Wilk
Recalled from sabbatical in 2007 for a new assignment. Left the priesthood in 9/2010. Named as an abuser in a civil lawsuit filed in 5/2013. Accused of abusing a boy at St. Matthew Church in Schaumburg, beginning in 1995 when the child was 10 and continuing for 8 years. Would allegedly give the boy alcohol and occasionally money. The accuser’s father told the Archdiocese in 2010; no action. In 2/2014 the Archdiocese added Wilk’s name to their public list of priests with credible allegations of abuse. As of 7/24/2014, the Archdiocese of Chicago said it had reinstated him as a priest in good standing after new information was found relating to allegations against him. No announcement made as to status of civil case against him except that the civil case still existed and was active in the courts.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
