Obituary of Richard T. Lower, New London

NEW LONDON-The Very Rev. Richard T. Lower, 57, died Saturday in
Enfield. He was born in Lebanon, the son of Richard Lower and Gwendolyn
Reney. He pursued undergraduate studies at St. Francis College in Biddeford,
Maine, and ecclesiastical studies for ordination to the priesthood at Wadhame
Hall Seminary in Ogdensberg, N.Y., and Our Lady of Loretto Seminary in
Loretto, Pa. He was ordained a priest in 1971 at St. Joseph Cathedral in
Manchester. He served as associate pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in
Hudson, as associate pastor and administrator of St. Rose of Lima Parish in
Littleton from 1972 to 1973, as Catholic Chaplain at Mary Hitchcock Hospital
in Hanover form 1973 to 1980, as associate pastor at St. Elizabeth Seton
Parish in Bedford from 1982 to 1985, as pastor of St. John the Evangelist
Parish in Concord from 1985 to 1988, as pastor of St. John Neumann Parish
in Merrimack from 1988 to 1990 and as pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish
in New London since 1990. He was a member of the Council of Priests and
served as the Vicar Forane of the Lebanon Deanery. Survivors include two
sisters, Carolyn Collins of Enfield and Susan Gagne of Bow; and nieces and
nephews. The Rite of Reception of the Body will be held Thursday from 5 to 7
p.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church in New London. A Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in the church. The Most Reverend
John McCormack will be celebrant. Chadwick Funeral Services, New
London, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to the Sick Clergy Fund of the Diocese of
Manchester.
