Laicization Update
Thomas J. Durkin

Archdiocese of Philadelphia
[June 2005 ?]

http://www.archdiocese-phl.org/protection/Updates/note_durkin.htm

The Holy See has notified Cardinal Justin Rigali that Thomas J. Durkin was dismissed from the clerical state by the Holy Father. The action was taken in response to a finding of misconduct involving minors.

Thomas Durkin functioned as a priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from June 1964 to March 1968, during which time he served in the following parishes:

- Saint Charles Borromeo, Bensalem;
- Holy Saviour, Linwood;
- Holy Spirit, Sharon Hill;
- Saint Francis Xavier, Philadelphia.

Removal from the clerical state means that in accord with canon law, these priests are no longer incardinated in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and are unable to function as priests anywhere.
We encourage anyone who wishes to make a report of sexual abuse of a minor to call the Victims Assistance Coordinators at 215-587-3880.
