  Catholic Priest to Be Ordained Saturday in Corsicana Ceremony

Rev. Mr. Gerald M. Scholl will be ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Saturday at 10 a.m. The Most Reverend Thomas K. Gorman, bishop of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Catholic Diocese, will officiate at the ceremony.

Rev. Mr. Scholl has lived most of his life in Buffalo, N. Y. where he attended St. Teresa School and the Diocesan Preparatory Seminary. In 1957, he entered Assumption Seminary in San Antonio for his Philosophy and theology.

He has spent much of his vacation time teaching and doing other work in the local parish and has visited Corsicana many times.

First Solemn Mass

His first Solemn Mass will be Sunday in Immaculate Conception church here and he will celebrate another solemn Mass the following week in Albuquerque, N. M., at his home parish, Saint Bernadette. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Milton Scholl, Albuquerque, will be here for the ordination and First Mass, as will many relatives from Buffalo and Dallas.

Bishop Gorman will be assisted at the ordination by Father August J. Merkel, pastor of the Corsicana parish, who will be chaplain. Father Merkel will also be archpriest for the First Solemn Mass.

Visiting Ministers

Other ministers of the Mass will be Rev. Mr. Donald Lomasiewicz, a classmate at Assumption from Grand Rapids, Mich., deacon; and Rev. Mr. Andrew Chrusciel, also of Grand Rapids, and a fourth year theology student at Assumption, subdeacon. Mr. Francis Becker, Dallas, who is also a seminarian for the Dallas-Fort Worth Diocese, will be master of ceremonies. Robert Strittmatter of All Saints Parish, Fort Worth, likewise a seminarian for the diocese, will be thurifer. Acolytes will be Vincent Fialho and Richard Brlttain, seminarians at St John's Seminary in San Antonio and parishoners of the Corsicana parish.

Father James McHardy, C. M., a professor at Assumption Seminary, will deliver the sermon.

Seminarians Sing

The seminarians from Assumption will sing for both occasions under the direction of Robert Sykora, a seminarian from St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Dallas. George Laurenson, a seminarian from the diocese and a frequent Corsicana visitor, will be organist.The seminarians will sing the Mass in honor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. The Right Rev. Cuthbert McDonald, O. S. B., Abbot of St. Benedict's Abbey, Atchinson, Kan., is expected to attend.

Reception Sunday

Father Scholl will be honored by the parish with a public reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 27, in the parochial school cafeteria.

Following his ordination and First Mass, Father Scholl will go to Albuquerque with his family for a brief vacation before receiving his assignment to a parish in the Diocese.

Father Merkel extends an invitation to the members of the community to join in these joyous occasions.
