  Rev. James Calhoun, 69; Was Pastor of Church in Germantown

The Rev. James Calhoun, former pastor of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, died Sunday (May 26, 1996) at the Rosewood Care Center in Swansea. He had recently undergone surgery for removal of a tumor in his head. He was 69.

The Rev. Mr. Calhoun resigned in 1993 as pastor at St. Boniface in the wake of accusations of sexual misconduct alleged to have taken place a decade earlier. Several other Belleville diocesan priests were removed about the same time amid similar allegations.

The Rev. Mr. Calhoun had been pastor at St. Boniface for seven years. He was ordained in 1955. His first assignment was at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, and he later served at several other churches.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. today at St. Peter's Cathedral at 200 West Harrison Street in Belleville.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at St. Peter's.

Burial will be in Green Mount Catholic Cemetery in Belleville.

Among the survivors are two brothers, Donald J. Calhoun of Fairview Heights and Gary A. Calhoun of Belleville.
