Authorities Still Working to Bring Former Priest from Phillipines

Associated Press State & Local Wire

Authorities still are working to bring a former area priest back from the Philippines to face sex crime charges, U.S. Attorney Drew Wrigley says.

The Rev. Fernando Sayasaya is accused of having sexual contact with two boys beginning in 1995. He was charged in Cass County last December with gross sexual imposition.

Wrigley said his office is working with other federal agencies to determine whether Sayasaya is an American citizen, because that could affect the extradition process.

Sayasaya was an associate pastor at St. Mary's church in Fargo and the Blessed Sacrament church in West Fargo in the mid-1990s. He was removed from his duties in the Fargo Roman Catholic Diocese in August 1998.
