Archdiocese of Detroit

On July 2, 2004, Fr. Luis Javier de Alba Campos (loo-

Ees | hav-ee-Er | day | Ahl-bah | (Comm-pose), 49,was removed as pastoral administrator of St. Gabriel Parish, Detroit, and restricted from any public ministry in the Archdiocese of Detroit. The actions were concurrent with a criminal investigation by civil authorities underway at that time involving an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor. Fr. de Alba is a priest of the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. He had served in the Detroit archdiocese since February. Upon being informed of the investigation, but not wanting to compromise it, the archdiocese asked Fr. de Alba to voluntarily leave the parish in mid-June. Saddened by these most recent developments, the archdiocese continues to cooperate fully with authorities on this matter, and would expect the same from Fr. de Alba. An offer of pastoral care has been extended to all involved, including the family of the alleged victim. Fr. Donald Hanchon, currently serving as pastor of Holy Redeemer Parish, Detroit, has been serving as temporary administrator of St. Gabriel Parish.
