  Man Makes Claims against Priests

Capital News 9
May 5, 2003

Another area man is claiming he was sexually abused by at least five priests back in the 1970s.

Attorney John Aretakis will only identify the man as John Doe Number Four, and another civil suit has been filed against four of the five priests, Bishop Hubbard, and the Albany Diocese.

Aretakis said his client was a minor when the alleged abuse occurred.

He said, "There was contact, there was touching, there was grabbing, feeling and rubbing. I don't want to get too graphic, but it's clearly as what's defined as a mid-40's man having inappropriate sexual contact with a 16 to 17-year-old boy."

Father Kenneth Doyle of the Albany Diocese, who is also named in the lawsuit but is not accused of abuse, said an investigation is ongoing.

He said, "In a current allegation, there is nothing said about the facts of the investigation unless or until a determination is made, either that sexual abuse did occur or that there is enough evidence to believe something may have occurred. And then the priests name is announced and he's removed publicly from ministry."
