PRESIDENT Arroyo on Wednesday asked the public to pray that fairness and justice may prevail in the latest sexual scandal that is hounding the Catholic Church.

She also asked Catholics to remain faithful without letting the charges filed against Novaliches Bishop Teodoro Bacani to affect or lessen their faith.

She added that belief in the Lord should be the center of one's faith and religion, not anything or anyone else.

Ignacio Bunye, presidential spokesman, said Arroyo "is saddened by the turn of events and continues to pray that fairness and justice will prevail in the end."

He reiterated that instead of making malicious speculations, the public should just await the resolution in the investigation conducted by Vatican, which was due for Wednesday.

Bacani was charged with two counts of sexual misconduct by his secretary of five years.

The Bishop denied the allegations before leaving for the United States Monday to visit his ailing mother, who is now staying in Kansas.
