They said that the Maltese Church had no desire to conceal any sexual abuse taking place within its confines. The Maltese Bishops said that the sexual abuse within the Church institutions was a profound contradiction for Christ's teachings. Likewise, Archbishop Mgr. Joseph Mercieca and Gozo bishop Nikol Cauchi deplored instances where certain sections of the media chose to sensationalise these reports, ignoring all principles of ethics.
