Memphis Catholic Diocese Hit with Another Sex Suit

WREG [Memphis TN]
November 14, 2005

MEMPHIS - A lawsuit spells out the abuse a 41-year-old Memphis man says he repressed for years. It was only after watching a news story about a former Memphis priest, Paul St.Charles that the victim remembered being molested. The victim says he was molested at the Church of Ascension on Ramill in Memphis when he was 15 or 16 years old. Then a teenager, he was spending the weekend at the rectory with Father St. Charles. He says the priest gave him wine and whiskey to drink and told him because they were in a church it was not wrong.

Members of S.N.A.P., Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests, say they aren't surprised at the allegation. St. Charles name is among the reported offenders listed on their website. http://www.rememberthesurvivors.com/

SNAP'S purpose is to out those in the ministry that allegedly molest. They say there is no other way to protect future victims because they often evade sex offender registries. S.N.A.P. says the church continues to closely hold secrets of the past.
