A Catholic priest, Father Michael Singini has been sued for allegedly being found with another man’s wife, according to civil case number 32 of 2006 at Rumphi Magistrate Court.

Winrichi Chinula confirmed taking the priest to court alleging that he found his wife Judith red-handed in the bedroom of the man of God at Rumphi Parish.

“I have been hearing rumours that the priest was having an affair with my wife and prayed that I should catch him. Lucky enough, I managed to do that last Thursday at around 7.30 PM,” he alleged.

He claimed a go-between the two told him that his wife had gone to the church where the priest stays.

“I took the girl with me and she was the one who knocked on the door. The unsuspecting priest came to open the door and I found my wife naked in the bedroom of the priest,” he alleged.

Chinula said he exchanged punches with the priest while his wife ran away.

He then produced letters and documents to prove that his wife was in love with the Catholic priest.

According to one affidavit signed by Chinula, his wife and a witness Enala Mbewe, she confessed that they had been in love since October 2005 and that they had been meeting at rest houses and sometimes at the parish.

But Chinula claimed that church elders at the parish are pleading with him to drop the case.

“Even the father himself is asking me to charge him for the offence he committed but I am refusing because it is a dangerous game especially this time of Aids,” he said.

He said since the incident, the wife has now left the house.

“My wife’s parents are saying that what they know is that their daughter is with me and that I will be responsible for anything that happens to her. That is the only thing that is worrying me,” he said.

But Father Singini said in interview Chinula’s wife was found at his parish residence to answer an international call.

“Mr. Chinula’s wife has a friend in Kenya called Janet. She rang and wanted to talk to her that is why she was found at my house that time,” he said.

Father Singini said she knew Janet because one time she asked him to write a proposal for her.

He claimed Chinula wants to make easy money from him and saying he wrote a letter asking K150, 000 (about $1,200).

But Chinula denied that he asked money from the priest.
