The police say they are close to laying charges against the 48-year-old church deacon and two teenaged boys arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 13-year-old girl.

Another youth is being sought in connection with the incident which was recorded on video.

Personnel from the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offence and Child Abuse (CISOCA) have joined in the probe.

Head of the St. Andrew Central Police, Senior Superintendent George Quallo said investigators are working feverishly to wrap up the case.

The police report that a deacon of the Dayton Avenue Church of God drove a van to a school in St. Andrew to pick-up one of the boys.

At the school he offered a ride to other students including the girl.

It is alleged that on their way home the boys held the girl and assaulted her.

The video recording shows the girl being fondled while the van was being driven before it parked and she appeared to be sexually assaulted.

The matter was brought to the attention of the media and the police by a young man who said he was disturbed by the images which he found on a compact disc.

Following investigations the police arrested the deacon and the two 18-year-olds Wednesday night.

The girl has also been taken into protective custody and is now getting medical attention and counseling.

Investigators say the deacon is facing charges of aiding and abetting and conspiracy while the boys could be charged with assault and carnal abuse.
