A former Catholic priest who is awaiting trial in a sex abuse case was charged again this week after another man came forward and said he had been molested as a teenager, Montgomery County police said.

William McSherry Stock, 63, of Rockville was charged Wednesday with child abuse and several counts of sex offense, police said. The new case involves a 41-year-old Laytonsville man, who alleges that he was fondled in the late 1970s, when he was about 14.

The man told police that Stock, then a priest at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olney, touched him inappropriately during confession and two weeks later when the priest took him and other boys to a movie. Stock also fondled him in the church cloakroom after the movie, the man told investigators.

After the teenager resisted Stock in the cloakroom, the priest stopped touching him and "told him that this would be their little secret," Detective Louvenna Pallas wrote in a charging document.

Stock is being held without bond in the initial case, which was filed in May, and is scheduled to go on trial in November.

In the first case, Stock was charged with custodial child abuse after a 42-year-old Silver Spring man told police that 26 years earlier, when he was 17, he sought counseling from Stock and that Stock abused him.

Stock was ordained in 1969 and worked at several Washington area churches before he left the priesthood in 1985. According to the Archdiocese of Washington, Stock worked at the St. Jane Frances de Chantal in Bethesda from 1969 to 1973; Mount Calvary in Forestville from 1973 to 1974; St. Peter's in Olney from 1974 to 1983; and Our Lady Queen of Peace in 1984. He was registered as a substitute teacher with the Montgomery school system in the fall of 2003, police said.

Susan Gibbs, a spokeswoman for the archdiocese, said that Stock left the priesthood "on his own volition" and that archdiocese officials had not been aware of allegations of sexual misconduct before his arrest in May.

Police ask that anyone with information about improper conduct involving Stock call 240-773-5400.
