Syracuse, N.Y. -- A Syracuse minister was sentenced to prison Wednesday for having an illegal sexual relationship with a teenage member of his congregation.

Jaree Jones, 30, had pleaded guilty to second-degree rape of the 14-year-old girl. He was sentenced to two to six years in state prison.

Jones led the Refuge Temple Church of Syracuse.

The relationship lasted from October 2004 to March 2005 and took place at his home and at church, where the girl's family attended.

Jones also awaits extradition to Connecticut on charges that he had sexual contact with a second victim.

That girl had reported the attack to police shortly after it happened and a warrant was issued for Jones' arrest.

The Connecticut warrant against Jones had been pending for several years, but was never entered into a national computer system.

Syracuse police found no record of the charges when they first arrested Jones, but the victim learned of Jones' arrest on the Internet and contacted authorities.

Jones was charged with sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, both felonies, on warrants issued in Waterbury, Conn.
