Mount Shasta — This year's third annual Mount Shasta International Film Festival offers short films, feature films and documentaries by filmmakers from the United States and around the world.

In addition to the documentaries written about previously (Amongst White Clouds, Homeland: Four Portraits of Native Action, Dear Mr. President, The Last Waltz, Sound of Soul and Sisters-In-Law) the following documentaries will round out this film festival category:

Farmer John
"The Real Dirt On Farmer John," has depth, humor and tremendous insight into the optimistic American spirit as it chronicles the epic tale of a maverick Midwestern farmer. The film is just one of many playing at the Mount Shasta International Film Festival.

Hand Of God

Deeply rooted in the details of growing up in a devout Italian Catholic family in Salem, Massachusetts, "Hand Of God" is both a personal film about one family's response to abuse by the clergy. In 1964 filmmaker Joe Cultrera's older brother, Paul, was sexually abused by a priest. What followed were 30 years of silence as Paul grew from potential priest to relentless investigator and critic. Unique and provocative, "Hand Of God" is both narratively and visually compelling. This movie is about a family's love and healing.

Paul Cultrera, the subject of the film, will be offering a Q&A after the showing of the film.

The Pact

The Swenkas
"The Swenkas" tells the story of the South African men's tradition of "Swenking," dressing and looking slick for their friends and neighbors while visiting home. The film is just one of many playing at the third annual Mount Shasta International Film Festival beginning this Friday through Sunday.

"The Pact" is a powerful documentary on the lives of three African-American men from inner-city Newark, New Jersey, who vowed to become doctors and against all odds succeeded. A gritty and provocative true-life tale, "The Pact" chronicles the Three Doctors as they fight to spread the word to inspire other inner-city children to stay out of gangs and use education to escape from their urban nightmare. "The Pact" speaks not only to the crisis of inner-city America, but to the power of the individual to make a difference. This is a hopeful and optimistic film which encourages all human beings to be the best they can be.

The Real Dirt On Farmer John

The epic tale of a maverick Midwestern farmer. Castigated as a pariah in his community, Farmer John bravely transforms his farm amidst a failing economy, vicious rumors, and arson. He succeeds in creating a bastion of free expression and a revolutionary form of agriculture in rural America. This award winning film has depth, humor and tremendous insight into the optimistic American spirit.

Sound Of The Soul

"Sound Of The Soul" is a glorious homage to the remarkable Fez Festival of World Sacred Music in Morocco, which brings together a unique array of musicians from Muslim, Christian and Jewish backgrounds. --All connected through their artistry by profound expressions of love and longing. In a world increasingly polarized by religious conflicts, "Sound Of The Soul" is a timely and profound experiential journey, reverberating with unity, understanding and most of all, hope.

The Swenkas

In South Africa, when the country was still in the grip of apartheid, men from the nation's rural areas often journeyed to the cities in search of work. Hoping to impress their families, the men would often buy stylish new suits for their visits back home, and practice looking slick for their friends and neighbors. This behavior evolved into a practice called "Swenking," in which working-class South Africans would meet on a regular basis for competitions in which they would see who could put together the best-looking outfit. Swenking is a hobby that still exists today. "The Swenkas" not only explores this ritual, but also the dignity and respect that becomes their code of
