Cincinnati — The Vatican has removed from the Roman Catholic priesthood two men who served in southwest Ohio.

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati said Thursday that the Vatican made the decision after considering evidence that they sexually abused children.

Kenneth Schoettmer and Richard Unwin were permanently removed from the clerical state by Pope Benedict the 16th.

Schoettmer is a former pastor at Queen of Peace church in Millville.

Unwin is a former pastor at Saint John the Baptist church in Tipp City and a former teacher at Badin High School in Hamilton.

The Pope's decision to defrock the men means that the Vatican has removed seven priests from the archdiocese for sexual misconduct.
