BALTIMORE — The pastor of a Roman Catholic church in Baltimore's Little Italy neighborhood has been removed amid an allegation that he abused a teenage boy in Brooklyn, New York, in the 1970s.

The pastor of a Roman Catholic church in Baltimore's Little Italy neighborhood has been removed.

The Reverend Michael Salerno has been pastor at St. Leo for ten years. His removal was announced Sunday at a parish meeting.

The abuse allegedly occurred while Salerno was a lay member of a religious order known as the Pallotines, before his ordination in 1993.

He is not facing criminal charges, but the allegation has been reported to civil authorities in New York.

Salerno is barred from serving as a priest while the church investigates the allegations.
