A Missouri man sued the St. Louis Archdiocese and a Jesuit priest Wednesday, alleging that the priest abused him 20 years ago at Cardinal Ritter College Prep.

The suit says the man, referred to only as John Doe 114, was sexually abused by Chester E. Gaiter between 1985 and 1987 at Gaiter's residence and other locations.

The suit says that the Archdiocese should have been aware of previous sexual misconduct involving Gaiter and other priests. The suit also names Archbishop Raymond Burke and the Jesuits.

Gaiter is physically and mentally incapacitated and lives in a retirement home in St. Louis.

In April, another Cardinal Ritter graduate, Charles Spearman, settled a civil suit for $140,000 that alleged that Gaiter and three other priests had sexually abused him at Cardinal Ritter and another local school in the 1980s.
