Defrocked Priest Sued for Abuse Again in Stockton

November 19, 2008

STOCKTON, Calif. (Map, News) - A defrocked priest who was the subject of a scathing Oscar-nominated documentary is being sued by another former parishioner who says he was sexually abused as a child.

The unnamed adult sued former cleric Oliver O'Grady Wednesday in San Joaquin County Superior Court for sexual abuse beginning when he was 6 years old. He also named the Diocese of Stockton as well as its former Bishop, Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles, for allegedly covering it up.

O'Grady has admitted abusing at least 25 children. He was deported to Ireland in 2001 after serving seven years. He was the subject of "Deliver Us From Evil," nominated for a 2007 Academy Award.
