A former Catholic priest who sexually abused a 15-year-old boy has been ordered to pay him $80,000 in compensation.

Edmund John Haines, 62, was jailed in October for four years and three months for a series of child sex crimes involving two young boys.

His crimes occurred in the Victorian towns of Bannockburn, Winchelsea and Geelong between March 2006 and February 2008.

One of his victims, now 16, was awarded $80,000 in compensation in the Victorian County Court on Thursday. He was aged 15 at the time of the abuse.

Haines appeared via videolink from jail for the hearing.

He was jailed after pleading guilty to six counts of an indecent act with a child under 16, and one count each of procuring a minor for child pornography, performing an indecent act with a child under 16 or 17, and producing and possessing child pornography.
