Update: Bishop Demetri Matta Khoury

March 3, 2009

Bishop Demetri Khoury, who retired as a bishop of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese on June 4, 2004, has apparently come out of retirement. According to an article published on the website of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Mexico, Khoury was scheduled to begin his duties as its auxiliary bishop in January, 2009.

Khoury pleaded guilty to attempted fourth degree criminal sexual misconduct in February, 2004, and was sentenced to 28 days in jail. He was also required to register as a sex offender. After completing his sentence, the bishop retired and relocated to Florida. On March 1, 2009, a check of the Florida sex offender registry revealed that Khoury was residing in Carolina, Puerto Rico, at an unknown address.
