A priest who recently finished serving a jail sentence for trying to grope a teenage boy will no longer serve in ministry, a spokesman for the man's religious order said Monday.

Rev. Luis Eduardo Ramirez, who used to be assigned to Our Lady of the Pillar parish in Santa Ana, pleaded guilty in June to taking a 17-year-old boy to a motel room and trying to touch him.

Ramirez is a member of the Augustinian Recollects order.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Lance Jensen was shown proof last week that Ramirez finished his six-month sentence at Anaheim City Jail. Today, Rev. Charles Huse, who is with the order, said Ramirez will not be placed in any parish.

"He is not permitted to exercise priesthood," Huse said.

Diocese of Orange officials have banned Ramirez from serving locally.

The crime occurred Jan. 3, 2008. Ramirez – the church's youth director – brought the boy, and some tequila, to an Anaheim motel. There, he gave the youth the alcohol. He put his head on the boy's lap and tried to reach under the boy's shirt.

He was arrested the same month and removed from the Santa Ana church.
