On July 16, 2009 Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested

Father James J. McDevitt, 62 years old, from Sacred Heart Church Margaretville, New York, on the following charges:

6 Counts – Sex Abuse in the Second Degree

1 Count- Sex Abuse in the Third Degree

7 Counts- Forcible Touching

6 Counts- Endangering the Welfare of a Child

All Class "A" Misdemeanors

After a month long investigation, on July 9, 2009, Deputies applied for an arrest warrant for Father James J. McDevitt for allegedly sexually abusing and endangering six male boys from within the area. The boys ages ranged from 11 through 19 years during the alleged acts. Deputies found the earliest alleged sexual contact by Father James J. McDevitt to have started about three years ago with two of the six victims.

Father James J. McDevitt and his attorney turned himself in at

Town of Middletown Court at 10:00AM this morning. He was released on $1000.00 bail and is scheduled to reappear August 13, 2009 at 10:00AM. Deputies are continuing with the investigation.
