A priest in Pike County was arraigned on Monday in Milford on charges related to possessing child pornography on his computer.

Father Robert Timchak, 43, turned himself in on Monday on 19 charges after an investigation launched when an anonymous letter to the Diocese of Scranton tipped off church officials that someone using Timchak's e-mail address had been accessing child pornography.

According to state police, on Dec. 17, 2008, the diocese alerted the Pike County District Attorney's Office that the anonymous letter had included explicit photos that had been recovered during a search of Timchak's e-mail address. The letter also included copies of church bulletins that listed Timchak's e-mail address as the same used in the search.

Police were then granted permission by Timchak to search both his desktop and laptop computers. Police determined that he had attempted to delete pictures from his computer that contained nude or partially nude males, some of which were under 18 years old.

Timchak was granted a leave of absence in April St. Vincent de Paul in Milford and St. John Neumann in Lords Valley.
